HISTORY

Concordia Ministries, Inc., is a non-profit corporation,  incorporated under the laws of the State of Mississippi. It is a lay Catholic, evangelization ministry, working to answer the call of the Holy Father to spread the truth of the Catholic faith.

The history of Concordia Ministries is woven into the story of  Secular Franciscans in the southern part of Mississippi.  It originated as a vision of a few Secular Franciscans and others from this area in the spring of 1999.  In April of that year, it was established as a private, non-profit corporation.

The founding members included:  Drew Boxx, Father Reynolds Garland, OFM, Karen V. Leake, SFO, Dr. Henry Maggio, John J. Weiler, Robert Palmer, SFO, Ann Seale, SFO, Ouida L. Tomlinson, SFO, Hedy K. Boelte, SFO, and John T. Heavey, SFO.

Non-profit status was granted by the Internal Revenue Service in August 2000.

 MISSION

The mission statement of Concordia is:  "I will be a witness to you in the world, O  Lord.    I will spread the knowledge of your name among my brothers and sisters, alleluia."  Psalm 18:50, 22:23.

Its first project was to begin the process of establishing a Catholic radio station.  An application with the FCC has been filed.  The mission of the radio project is to communicate Christian truth as expressed in sacred Scripture, sacred Tradition and in accord with the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.  In achieving that mission, programming is to communicate the truth, foster charity, defend justice, spread joy and confirm that peace which Christ the Lord brings among all people.

The goal is to evangelize by radio throughout Mississippi, Louisiana and possibly the Southeast United States.

Fundraisers have served as tools for evangelization, such as the testimony given by Barbara Brennan at a fundraising breakfast, held at Our Lady of the Gulf in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Concordia has sponsored several other evangelization projects.  It initiated the bringing of Evangelization 2000 to many parishes in Louisiana and Mississippi.  In that connection, several Concordia board members and friends were members of a teaching team which presented Evangelization classes to de l'Epee Deaf Center in Gulfport, for the first time.

Concordia assisted with the establishment of an Adoration Chapel in Chili.

Following the lead of the Holy Father to use the internet for our faith, Concordia's website has evolved to go beyond providing information on the corporation to focus on evangelization and to being a spiritual oasis.

PRAYER FOR CONCORDIA

"I will be a witness to you in the world, O Lord.
I will spread the knowledge of your name

among my brothers and sisters, alleluia."
Psalm 18:50, 22:23.

Oh, good and gracious Most High God, you have planted these words in our hearts!  May the Holy Spirit help them to grow to fruition by implanting in us His gifts, especially love, joy and peace.  May our labors always be a labor of love for you, O Jesus, and may they always bring joy to all hearts and an everlasting peace to ALL.  Amen.
